「青ひげ」に続くオルソップのバルトークは、バレエ音楽「木製の王子」です。おとぎ話をそのままバレエにしたこの作品、ストラヴィンスキーやワーグナーの影響を受けたと言われる激しいリズムと重厚な響きを持ち、バルトークの最高傑作の一つとされています。オルソップの緻密な音作りが曲の魅力を引き立てています。
