イギリス、マンチェスターの楽譜出版社「フォーサイス・ブラザーズ」。1850年代に創設されたこの会社は、もともとピアノを扱っていましたが、やがて楽譜や他の楽器の扱いをはじめ、1980年代の終わりには軽音楽のレパートリーも増やし、現在に至っています。この2枚組は、フォーサイス・ブラザーズから出版されたリコーダー曲集「John and Peter's Whistling Book」に掲載されていた作品を、1988年にジョン・ターナーとピーター・ローソンが演奏したアルバムが原盤。初出時のアルバム収録作のほとんどはターナーのために書かれたもので、ジャズや舞曲風の軽い作品もあれば、ジョン・ゴーランドの「ディヴェルティスマン」など規模がの大きな作品もあります。今回の新装再発売に際して新たに5曲を加えました。録音時期には30年ほどの開きがありますが、ターナーとローソンはギャップを感じさせない生き生きとした演奏を聴かせます。
