イギリスの現代作曲家の一人、ニコラス・マーシャル(1943-)の音楽は、伝統的なハーモニーと調性を用いながらも、新鮮で斬新な雰囲気を有しています。このアルバムでは、やはりイギリスを代表する名テノール、ギルクリストによる抒情的な歌曲と、リコーダーの名手ターナーによる協奏曲、そして2人の絶妙な掛け合いも楽しむことができます。ピアノと歌のさざめきの合間から、リコーダーによるカッコウの鳴き声が響いてくる様子からは、確かにイギリスの田園風景を感じることができるでしょう。
