イギリスの名指揮者ビーチャムは、幅広いレパートリーを持つことで知られていますが、とりわけヘンデル作品に力を入れており、当時あまり演奏されることのなかったオラトリオや歌劇なども積極的に上演、作品の普及に力を尽くしました。この「ソロモン」もそんな作品の一つ。旧約聖書から題材を採った大作オラトリオですが、「シバの女王の到着」以外の全曲が演奏されることは現代でもほとんどありません。しかしビーチャムは、曲の中に息づく豊かな生命力と美しさを存分に引き出し、素晴らしい作品として全体をまとめ上げています。
