Alida Ferrarini is one of the leading Italian coloratura sopranos of today. She was born in Verona, where she studied with Maestro Enzo Cecchetelli, before making her début at Treviso in Puccini’s La Boheme. She has since appeared at all the most important opera-houses in Italy, including La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro Regio in Turin, the Teatro Communale at Bologna, the Florence Teatro Cummunale, the Arena in Verona, La Scala in Milan and the Teatro Communale in Genoa. Her rôles have included a highly successful Micaela in Carmen at La Scala under Claudio Abbado. She made her London début at Convent Garden as Gilda in Rigoletto and her American début in San Francisco in L’elisir d’amore. She appeared again as Adina for her Barcelona début and in Monte Carlo, at La Scala and at the Vienna State Opera with Pavarotti in the same work. She has sung Gilda in Verona, Frankfurt, Parma, Cologne and at the Opera in Paris.
