The mezzo-soprano Graciela Alperyn was born in Buenos Aires, where she had her musical education. After success in a number of international competitions she became a soloist with the Teatro Colon in the Argentinian capital, undertaking principal rôles in German, French, Italian and Russian repertoire. In 1984 Graciela Alperyn made her European début at the Musiktheater in Revier at Gelsenkirchen where she undertook, among other rôles, that of Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier and Isabella in L’Italiana in Algieri. At the Hess Staatstheater in Weisbaden she sang the part of Sextus in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Charlotte in Massenet’s Werther, Octavian, Dorabella in Così fan tutte and Carmen. In the 1998/89 season she appeared as the composer in Ariadne auf Naxos and as Delilah in Samson et Delilah. She continued with guest appearances in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Budapest, Düsseldorf and elsewhere. Graciela Alperyn has also attained distinction on the concert platform with a repertoire ranging from Bach to the contemporary.
