Jaume Torrent began his study of the guitar with Gracià Tarragó, a pupil of Miquel Llobet. Further technical study has led to the acquisition of a robust sonority with a wide range of dynamic contrasts and with a balanced integration of the guitar in chamber ensembles and the orchestra without need for amplification. He is one of the best known Catalan guitarists on the international scene, with appearances in Vienna, Bayreuth, Barcelona, Kiev, Amman and elsewhere. He has recorded the complete guitar compositions of Heitor Villa-Lobos for PDI and various pieces by Xavier Montsalvatge and Xavier Benguerel for Columna Música, as well as Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez (a DVD for Pioneer) and works by Miquel Llobet and Gracià Tarragó.
