Alí Arango is one of the most prominent guitarists of his generation. He studied at the Amadeo Roldán Music Conservatory, Havana, and the Liceu Conservatory, Barcelona, also receiving lessons from Antonio Alberto Rodríguez Delgado and Joaquín Clerch. Arango has been taught by Leo Brouwer, participating in various projects with him, including the world premiere of three of his works, and appearances as a soloist at his concerts and tributes. Arango has won 23 prizes in numerous international guitar competitions.
He has performed in many prestigious concert halls around the world including the Palau de la Música Catalana, the Manuel de Falla Auditorium, and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He is currently part of the Pyrophorus Guitar Duo, with Arango composing exploratory works specifically for this format, fusing Cuban, jazz and contemporary styles. As a composer Arango has written solo works for guitar, duets for guitar and other instruments, chamber pieces, and music for video art and documentaries.
