The bass-baritone Tomasz Wija was born in 1982 in Poland and studied singing at the University of Arts in Berlin. His repertoire includes bass and baritone rôles from the baroque to the contemporary. He has sung in Philip Glass’s Einstein on the Beach, the rôle of Moses in Rossini’s Mosè in Egitto, Creon and the Messenger in Stravinsky’s Œdipus Rex and bass parts in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and St John Passion and Handel’s Messiah. In 2008 he won second prize in the Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau, in February 2009 first prize in the Franz Schubert and Modern Music International Competition in Graz (with David Santos) and in September 2009, also with David Santos, first prize in the First Dortmund International Schubert Lied Duo Competition. Tomasz Wija has scholarship awards from the Berlin-Brandenburg Richard Wagner Union, the Berlin Gotthard Schierse Institute and the Berlin Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now foundation.
