Born in Florence, the Italian bass Paolo Pecchioli studied voice with Renata Scotto, Carlo Bergonzi, Elio Battaglia and Leo Nucci. He won several prizes at singing contests, including the Ettore Bastianini Prize at the Florence Le Grandi Voci Toscane Contest in Campi Bisensio. In 1990 he made his début singing Don Tritemio in Il filosofo di campagna. Since then he has sung in various prestigious theatres and festivals in Italy (Teatro Regio Turin, Teatro Comunale Florence, Teatro Comunale Bologna, Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa, Teatro Regio Parma and Teatro Verdi Busseto, in Siena, Livorno, Lucca, Savona, Sassari, Arezzo, Pistoia, Ravenna, Trieste and at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago) and abroad (Teatro Liceu Barcelona, Carnegie Hall New York, Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden, Grange Park and Holland Park London, Valencia, Murcia and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam). He has worked with distinguished conductors and recorded the rôle of Alidoro in La Cenerentola with the Munich Radio Orchestra under Carlo Rizzi. His wide repertoire ranges from Mozart to Massenet.
