The Latvian State Choir has become one of the best-known European choirs since its founding over 75 years ago. The musicality and vocal mastery of the choir members makes it a universal unit which feels at home in both a cappella and large-scale choral works with orchestra.
The Latvian State Choir has been invited to collaborate with worldclass orchestras under the batons of conductors including Mariss Jansons, Zubin Mehta, Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Valery Gergiev, Simone Young, Stephen Layton, Andris Nelsons and Vladimir Fedoseyev. Since 1997, the artistic director and principal conductor of the choir has been Māris Sirmais.
