Son of the composer Raphaël Fumet, the flautist Gabriel Fumet was trained
at the Paris Conservatoire, where he took first prizes in flute and in chamber
music. He occupies a distinguished position among the most eminent flautists
in France today and in 1990 received the Grand Prix of the Fondation de France,
the Prix Georges Oulmont, for his achievements. In a career that has brought equal distinction
in the concert-hall and in the recording and broadcasting studio, he has given
particular attention to making more widely known the music of his grandfather,
Dynam Victor Fumet, and his father. In this task he has had the assistance of
the finance company E. de Rothschild and of the Fondation Paribas.
