Tenor Markus Schafer studied singing and church music in Karlsruhe and Dusseldorf with Armand McLane. He was a prizewinner at the Regional Singing Competition Berlin and in the Caruso Competition Milan.
Guest engagements and concert tours have seen him collaborate with orchestras, opera houses and festivals of the highest distinction, and he has performed with conductors including Rene Jacobs, Sigiswald Kuijken, Paul McCreesh, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Frans Bruggen, Michael Gielen, Stefan Soltesz, Kent Nagano, Jos van Immerseel, Jun Markl and Pierre Cao.
His recordings have brought acclaim, including a GRAMMY Award for his performance in Bach’s St Matthew Passion with Harnoncourt.
