Musical director of the Tbilisi State Opera, Giacomo Sagripanti is considered one of the more interesting conductors of his generation on the international scene. In 2016, in London, he won the Opera Awards as Best Conductor of the Year.
He began his career in Italy and Germany, debuting at the Valle d’Itria Festival, Associazione Lirica e Concertistica Italiana, and at the theatre of Lübeck. He soon attracted the attention of theatres throughout Europe, and was called to conduct at Dresdenìs Semperoper, La Fenice in Venice, Zurich’s Opernhaus, Valencia’s Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, the Rossini Opera Festival, Verona’s Arena, always enjoying great success with audiences and critics.
He is a regular guest of many prestigious orchestras for the symphonic repertoire, among them: Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI Turin, Orquestra Simfònica des Iles Balears, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, ROSS Sevilla, Filarmonica Toscanini.
In January 2016 he reaped a huge success conducting Werther at the Opéra Bastille in Paris, later debuting with the Philharmonic Orchestra of St. Petersburg.
He is a constant presence in some of the most renowned venues, such as the Opéra de Paris (Il barbiere di Siviglia, La traviata, Capuleti e Montecchi, La cenerentola, Rigoletto, Madama Butterfly, L’elisir d’amore), Royal Opera House London (La traviata, Don Pasquale), Wiener Staatsoper (La traviata, Tosca, Anna Bolena, Werther, Il barbiere di Siviglia, La cenerentola), National Theater Munich (La cenerentola, La Favorite), Bolshoi Moscow (Un ballo in maschera, Don Carlo, Tosca), Gran Teatre del Liceu (Tosca, Viaggio a Reims, Lucia di Lammermoor), Teatro de la Maestranza Sevilla (Cenerentola), Teatro di San Carlo (Puritani, Traviata, Beatrice di Tenda), Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari (Otello, La bohème, Madama Butterfly).
He conducted Moise et Pharaon for the opening of the Rossini Opera Festival, Verdi Requiem at the lead of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra and of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Turandot (a new production) at the Hamburgische Staatsoper, and he debuted at the Teatro Real de Madrid with Rossini’s Il Turco in Italia.
His future engagements include: Don Pasquale at the Wiener Staatsoper, his debut at the Metropolitan Opera with Il barbiere di Siviglia; and performances at the Gran Teatre del Liceu (La Cenerentola, Traviata and a new production of Bohème in 2026), the Royal Opera House London (Lucia di Lammermoor, Il trovatore), the Rossini Opera Festival in 2025; Mahler’s Fourth (ROSS Orchestra), Orchestre de Chambre de Paris (Philarmonie 2024), and Mahler’s First (Tbilisi).
