Sandra Medeiros was born in São Miguel in the Azores. She graduated from the Lisbon College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London where, in 2003, she won a distinction in her postgraduate degree in Vocal Performance. Her awards have included the Amanda von Lob Memorial Prize and second prize in the Bidu Sayão International Vocal Competition in Brazil (2004). Sandra Medeiros has performed with the leading Portuguese orchestras, with Camerata Lysy Gstaad, and the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. Her operatic rôles include Barbarina (Le nozze di Fígaro) Princesse (L’enfant et les sortilèges), Twin sister (Philip Glass’s White Raven), Frasquita (Carmen), Serpina (La serva padrona), Cardella (Pergolesi’s Lo frate ’nnamorato), Carlota (Marcos Portugal’s Le donne cambiate) and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni). She has recorded eighteenth-century Portuguese love songs with L’Avventura London.
