Dennis James has done much to re-awaken interest in the glass armonica since his emergence as a performer in 1983. At the same time he has turned his attention to other glass instruments. Born in Philadelphia in 1950, he studied the organ at the School of Music of Indiana University and his interest in glass instruments was first aroused by hearing records of the late glass instrument virtuoso Bruno Hoffmann. In 1983 he established the International Glass Music Festival at Capital University, thereafter developing an international career with illustrated lectures, solo recitals and guest appearances with chamber ensembles in festivals, concerts, broadcasts and television appearances.
