“…Apart from this, it was clear from the outset that
Klaus-Peter Hahn is a cellist with a masterly command over his instrument.
Whether playing or conducting, the artist radiates a pleasure in what he is
doing that is there for all to see, yet does not obtrude. He is able to operate
at the level of that mysterious reality which is the quintessence of musical
enjoyment.”
(Marseilles)
Klaus-Peter Hahn’s career as cellist and conductor began in Stuttgart, where
he studied the cello with Ludwig Hoelscher (additionally taking part in courses
given by Pierre Fournier and Paul Tortellier), and conducting with Hans Grischkat
(also receiving supplementary tuition from Thomas Ungar). From the time of its
formation in 1968 until 1981, Klaus-Peter Hahn was a member of the Stuttgart
Piano Trio, winning numerous prizes at both national and international competitions
(among them, the Mendelssohn Prize, Berlin and the ARD Prize, Munich) and making
repeated tours to the USA, Canada, Central and South America, Australia, the
Far East, South Africa and other countries. In addition to his concert activities
with this chamber ensemble and to his radio transcriptions, television appearances
and commercial recordings, Klaus-Peter Hahn also performed with many of the
most highly reputed orchestras: the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney
Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Eliahu Inbal,
the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Bratislava Radio Orchestra, to name
but a few. In 1981, to complement his activities as soloist, he assumed the
direction of the French chamber orchestra, “Les Solistes de Marseilles”. From
1987 to 1991 he directed the Kurpfalz Chamber Orchestra. With it he presented
concert performances in which he himself sometimes appeared as soloist and produced
radio transcriptions and commercial recordings. He has been a member of the
Trio Kreis-leriana since its formation in 1989. Since 1991 Klaus-Peter Hahn
has been with conducting the chamber orchestra “Les Solistes de Bourgogne”,
an ensemble with which he also appears as soloist. As guest conductor with the
Moscow Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, Klaus-Peter Hahn has, since
1994, conducted in cities such as Barcelona, Baden-Baden, Marseilles and Melbourne.
His first CD with this orchestra was recently released. In 1993, he recorded
J.S. Bach’s solo cello suites for Mediaphon.
