The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra is based in Vilnus, having been formed in the 1960's by Saulius Sondeckis. The young group was shortly to receive the Herbert von Karajan Gold Medal, which embarked them on an international career. Visits to the Berlin Philharmonie, London's Festival Hall and the Carnegie Hall in New York confirmed their status as an outstanding ensemble. Since then they have made many tours, more recently associated with Yehudi Menuhin, who became their enthusiastic conductor and champion. They have made a number of recordings and are frequently in radio studios.
