Founded in 1943 by Ernő Dohnányi, as part of the Hungarian Television and Broadcasting Organisation, the Budapest Symphony Orchestra became widely known through its frequent broadcasts and its recordings, working with some of the most distinguished conductors of our time including János Ferencsik, its first music director, Tibor Polgár, Lázló Somogyi, György Lehel, András Ligeti, Péter Eötvös, István Kertész, Antal Doráti, Otto Klemperer, Carlo Zecchi, Igor Markevitch, Leopold Stokowski, John Barbirolli, Claudio Abbado, Charles Münch, Georg Solti, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Neville Marriner, Béla Drahos, Giuseppe Patanè, Tamás Vásáry and Iván Fischer. The orchestra is known today as the MR Symphony Orchestra.
