American bass Wilbur Pauley is honored to have been selected by composer Louis Karchin for the rôle of Mayor Babenhausen in Romulus. Some highlights of his thirty-year career include The Ghosts Of Versailles (world première) at the Metropolitan Opera, and The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny at the Salzburg Festival, (both available on video); two Broadway engagements: the musical Band, in Berlin, and The Merchant of Venice, with Dustin Hoffman; and over ten feature film soundtracks, including Beauty and the Beast, Dead Man Walking and Enchanted. Since 2008, Wilbur Pauley has appeared in Falstaff with Santa Fe Opera; Xenakis’s Oresteia in NYC; the Carnegie Hall première of Seven Deadly Sins with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra; more Seven Deadly Sins in Rome, Linz, Paris and Chicago; Stravinsky’s Renard with Charles Dutoit in Saratoga, NY, and Miyazaki, Japan; and, with his vocal group, Hudson Shad, at the Macau (China) Music Festival. Recent credits also include Xenakis’s Ais with Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg; Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre with the NY Philharmonic; and Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
