Neil Jenkins was born in St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex, and received his musical education as a chorister at Westminster Abbey and as choral scholar at King’s College, Cambridge, completing his studies at the Royal College of Music in London. In 1972 he won the NFMS award. He has sung for Scottish Opera, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Kent Opera and Glyndebourne, and appeared with major companies in Germany, France and Italy, and in the Americas. He has enjoyed international success also as a concert singer, with collaboration in many recordings to his credit.
