Andrew Ball received a First in music at The Queen’s College, Oxford, and studied at the Royal College of Music, later becoming head of keyboard. He made his debut at Wigmore Hall in 1974, establishing a busy, worldwide career.
Ball performed Messiaen’s Couleurs de la Cité céleste at the BBC Proms and studied the sonatas of Michael Tippett with the composer, performing the complete cycle many times.
Recordings include the complete Tippett song cycles with Martyn Hill, the piano and orchestral works of Billy Mayerl and four albums in a wide repertoire with Madeleine Mitchell, with whom he had a 20-year duo until Parkinson’s disease halted his performing.
