Founded in 1937, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France was re-established in the mid-1970s at the instigation of Pierre Boulez, who did away with the rigidity of the traditional symphony orchestra, instead employing a Philharmonique that adapts simultaneously to any configurations of classical, modern and contemporary repertoire. In residence at the Paris Salle Pleyel, working with the best musicians of our time from Boulez and Salonen to Gilbert and Dudamel, in 2010 the orchestra celebrated its tenth season with music director Myung-Whun Chung, touring the United States, China, South America and Russia.
