Born in Badalona (Barcelona), Francesc Guillén began his musical training with his father, and later in the Escolania de Montserrat (the Montserrat Abbey Moys’ Choir) where he studied cello, piano, organ and singing. After a short but intensive career as tenor, concentrating especially on Baroque and Renaissance repertoire, which took him round Europe with musicians such as Jordi Savall, René Jacobs and Paul van Nevel, he developed an interest in orchestral conducting.
He studied with Antal Dorati and Wilfried Boettcher in the Basle Conservatory, where he graduated in 1989. Since then, he has conducted numerous opera productions and orchestras, including the City of London Players, Barcelona 216, Empordà Chamber Orchestra and Prague Philharmonic. He has appeared in more than 250 concerts with the Granollers Chamber Orchestra in Barcelona as well as in other cities in Spain.
