Puglian baritone Claudio Sgura began his vocal studies in Lecce. After coming to international attention at the Concorso Internazionale Voci Verdiane ‘Citta di Busseto’ in 2006, he made his debut at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan as Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) one year later. He has since performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as Jack Rance (La fanciulla del West), the Wiener Staatsoper and the Metropolitan Opera as Scarpia (Tosca), the Opéra national de Paris as Jack Rance and Barnaba (La Gioconda) and the New National Theatre, Tokyo as Amonasro (Aida).
