GRAMMY-nominated pianist Maria Lettberg has been described as a world-class musician with an impressive musical personality. A Swedish national born in Riga, she currently lives in Berlin. She achieved international fame with her complete recording of the piano works of Alexander Scriabin. Since then, many other outstanding recordings have been released by Lettberg, including solo piano music by Erkki Melartin, piano concertos and chamber music by Alfred Schnittke and Zara Levina. Most recently, she was nominated for a GRAMMY in the category ‘Best Classical Instrumental Solo’ for her CD ‘The Piano Concertos’ (Zara Levina).
Her concerts focus on Scandinavian, Eastern European and Baltic music. With her broad repertoire ranging from J.S. Bach to modern and contemporary composers, she creates musically sophisticated programmes that have been well received not only in Germany but also in many European countries, the USA and Japan. The solo performances have taken the artist to major festivals and concert halls, including the Elbphilharmonie and Laieszhalle Hamburg, the Gasteig Munich and the Rudolf-Oetker-Halle Hannover, the Usedom Music Festival and the Mittelrhein Music Festival, deSingel (Antwerp) and CAPE – Centre des Arts Pluriels Ettelbruck (Luxembourg), Théâtre de Cornouaille Quimper and Arsenal Metz, Berwaldhalle and Konserthuset Stockholm. Maria Lettberg often performs rarely performed piano concertos by Zara Levina, Wilhelm Stenhammar, Paul Hindemith and Alfred Schnittke with renowned orchestras such as the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester, the Magdeburgische Philharmonie, the Philharmonic Orchestras of the City of Trier and the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz.
