The bass-baritone Domenico Trimarchi was born in Naples, where he studied singing at the Conservatory and scenography and the history of art at the Accademia di Belle Arti, In 1970 he won the Venice International Competition and made his début at La Fenice as Belcore in L’elisir d'amore. Domenico Trimarchi's repertoire covers over 137 roles, including the title-rôle in Verdi’s, and Salieri’s Falstaffs, both given in the 1986-87 season at Parma, and principal rôle, in La Cenerentola, L’italiana in Algeri and Il mondo della luna, among many others. He made his British début at the Edinburgh Festival in 1972 with the Teatro Massimo of Palermo and first appeared at Covent Garden in 1975 as Bartolo and as Melitone. His career has taken him to all the major opera-houses of the world, including La Scala, Milan, the Vienna State Opera and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, in addition to distinguished appearances in leading international festivals. He has made some score of notable recordings.
