Born in 1964, in Kufstein (Tyrol), at the age of 11 he was already organist at the St. Martin church in his native town. After a few years’ lessons at the Conservatory in the city of Innsbruck, in 1982 he began to study the organ with Prof. Dr. Rudolf Scholz at the Hochshule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, at the same time studying piano with Prof. Evelyne Heinisch and harpsichord with Prof. Gordon Murray. In addition, he took part in a master course for the organ with Lionel Rogg (Geneva). In 1985 the young artist won first prize in the “Jugend musiziert” competition in Neuberg (Styria) and, again, in 1986 first prize in the international Anton Bruckner organ competition in Linz. In 1987 he was awarded the Würdigungspreis (appreciation prize) of the Federal Minister for Science and Research.
Andreas Juffinger has given series of concerts at home and abroad, besides solo appearances in the Vienna Musikverein, in the Konzerthaus in Vienna and the Brucknerhaus in Linz, where he has played with (among others) the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Slovak Philharmonic of Bratislava. Further, the organist has contributed to many radio recordings and undertaken the solo organ part in CD recordings with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
