The composer and pianist Paul Reade, born in Lancashire, England, died at a relatively early age of leukaemia. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music, where his first orchestral work, Overture to a City, was performed in 1965 by the Academy Orchestra. Reade worked as a répétiteur with Sadler’s Wells Opera from 1966 but gradually established a reputation for writing scores for television drama and children’s programmes as well as music for ballets. His most familiar composition is the theme for the television series The Antiques Roadshow, co-composed with Tim Gibson.
