Michele Stratico was born in the Venetian city of Zara in 1728. His family came from Crete (then called Candia), which they were forced to flee from after the Turks had taken over the island in 1669. Having moved to Padua to study at the renowned university of that city, Stratico also took violin lessons from Tartini. Indeed, Sberti in 1814 calls him a “distinguished pupil of the great Tartini”. After moving to Sanguinetto, near Verona, he exercised the functions of vicar of the Podestà, dedicating himself to composing and the study of musical theory.
He has left numerous compositions, among them six Sonatas for violin and basso continuo published around 1763, and a large manuscript production (156 Sonatas for violin and basso continuo and as many as 63 Violin Concertos).
