Relatively little is known of the earlier life of the English composer Antony Holborne. He was in the service of Queen Elizabeth and clearly enjoyed a high reputation as a musician in his own time.
Instrumental Music
A quantity of dance music by Holborne survives, a third of his surviving compositions appearing in The Cittharn Schoole, which he published in 1597, a substantial addition to the repertoire of the lute and similar instruments.
