Richard Blackford started out on a Leverhulme scholarship as Hans Werner Henze’s assistant, and worked very successfully for many years, including on over 200 film scores, winning Die Goldene Deutschland for services to music in Germany in 2015. He then returned to a period of study, being awarded a PhD from the University of Bristol in 2019, the year he won an Ivor Novello Award for Pietà, his third commission from the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus. His concert works are performed regularly around the world and his music for film and television is broadcast frequently throughout Europe.
