Xu Jianqiang is a professor and doctoral supervisor of the composition department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He is also Creative Member and Deputy Director of the China Chorus Association. Many of his compositions, ranging from piano to folk music works, have won the ‘Golden Bell Award’ held by the Ministry of Culture and the China Music Association. In 2011, the piano ensemble, The Feeling of Moving Things, won the 1st prize (the ‘Liu Tianhua Cup’) in the national folk music competition. In 2007, the Silk String Quintet’s Clamor Board, of which he composed, won the 1st prize of the national cultural award competition.
