Enjott Schneider, composer with an extensive oeuvre comprising over 2000 compositions: ten operas from “Salome-Prinzip” (1983), “Marco Polo” composed in Chinese (2018) to “Kriemhild” (2023), 16 organ symphonies that have been played in the largest cathedrals worldwide, 8 orchestral symphonies, many symphonic and chamber music works, sacred music with 12 major oratorios as well as choral and organ music. Hundreds of film scores such as “Schlafes Bruder”, “Stalingrad”, “23”, “Stauffenberg”, which have received numerous awards: German Film Award, German Television Award, Fipa d’Or “Best European Film Music”, Emmy Award New York, etc. 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award at the “Festival SoundtrackCologne” and 2019 German Film Music Award.
He also focuses on works with Asian instruments, for complex “Chinese Orchestra” or solo Sheng, Dizi, Yanquin etc. Typical is his ‘cross culture composing’ as creative communication with styles and contexts of past times (historical dimension) or other cultural circles (geographical dimension). He also incorporates electronic elements and noisy sound design. The search for essence, origin and archetype dominates. The creation is documented on over 100 CDs. The performance venues range worldwide from Paris, Rome, Madrid, Gdansk, Helsenki, New York, Los Angeles to Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei, Singapore, Cape Town, Manaus, Kiev, Novosibirsk.
From 1979–2012 professor at the Munich University of Music and Theatre, from 2003 to 2021 member of the GEMA Supervisory Board (also as Chairman of the Supervisory Board), from 2013-2020 President of the German Composers’ Association, formerly also member of the Presidium of the German Music Council.
