Jonathan Leshnoff is quickly winning an international reputation as one of America’s most gifted young composers. The New Jersey-born composer is riding the crest of a wave of popularity that has resulted in international performances of his works by the Philadelphia, Baltimore, IRIS, Buffalo, Kyoto, Curtis Institute and Kansas City Symphonies, among many other symphonic performances, and chamber performances by the Da Capo Chamber Players, Concertante and the Twenty-First Century Consort.

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts commissioned his full-length oratorio, Hope, for première in 2011 by the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Roberto Minczuk conductor, during the Kimmel Center’s inaugural International Arts Festival. During that same season, the Philadelphia Orchestra, under the baton of Charles Dutoit, will première his Flute Concerto, written for Jeffrey Khaner, and the Baltimore Symphony, under the direction of Marin Alsop, will première Starburst, a new orchestral work jointly commissioned by the Baltimore, Kansas City and Orquesta de Extremadura Symphonies.

The award-winning Leshnoff, an associate professor at Towson University, is composer-in-residence with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra.
